How To Change Car Oil Filter

Changing your car oil filter is a little difficult if you don't know exactly how to do it. The task of filtering the engine oil can be too messy that's whay many people leave it to a professional mechanic. However, it is quite possible to accomplish this job in your garage if you have the time and patience. Below is a simple guide to help you change your car oil filter:

1. Run the engine at low revs for a few minutes, enough to warm the oil. Maintain the stability of your car and apply the hand brake, before locating the car's oil filter. In most cars, it will be somewhere on the underside, in what you'll likely discovered to be a rather inconvenient location.

2. Open the the oil-filter cap. Oil filter is screwed on very tight and typically covered in oil or grease. Because of this, you should use a wrench. There are various types of wrenches especially designed for changing oil filters.

3. Remove the filter. Remember to put a bowl or drain pan under the filter so that when you get the filter loose, the oil will drain into it. You just have to let it drain, then wipe the excess oil off.

4. Afterwards, install the new filter. To make sure the right filter for your car, look at your car's owner's manual. Get the new filter and put a few drops of new oil over the whole surface area of the rubber gasket to get a good seal.

5. Screw the new filter up into the gasket plate and once it is fit, turn on the filter to tighten it. Remember not to use wrench to tighten the new filter for it may result in warping the gasket. Run the engine for a few minutes to check for any leaks.
